Lovely and good value Connemara Hostel

- Reviewed 1 July 2014

Lovely Hostel, it felt like a hotel. Plenty of space and comfortably appointed furnishings. Friendly and professional service. Delicious breakfast in the Lodge Connemara restaurant. What more could you ask for? We pulled in unannounced and managed to secure a hostel room at the last minute. We had no idea what to expect.

“The food was delicious.
Also, the service was spectacular.!!!!!!!!”

Each time we passed Letterfrack Lodge my fiancée said we should stop there and eat. I refused stating that the sign "Luxury Meals at a Bargain Price" was an oxymoron....and just not However, eventually I acquiesced and I am happy that I did.

We ate a couple of times at this establishment and found the food delicious and the portions large....and the price was, as stated, a bargain. On one visit my fiancée tried the full Irish breakfast. He truly enjoyed it. Being vegetarian I opted for the zucchini and cream cheese soup along with some chips....the largest portion while in Ireland.....and the bread.....always the bread....It was all delicious.

On our return visit we both had dinner, and again, the portions were large and the food was delicious. Also, the service was spectacular.

I wish I remembered the server's name as she should receive praise as being an employee that goes out of her way to make the customer feel welcome and didn't bat an eye when we had questions about the menu and my fiancée changed his mind on an order that had been placed (I could have hurt him but she seemed unfazed and was good natured about The Lodge is close to the Connemara National Park. If in the area you should stop by for a good meal at a great price.

“The Perfect Connemara National Park Hiking Lodge!” - Reviewed 1 September 2014

I enjoyed my stay here immensely while traveling around Ireland Connemara region. I didn't have a car and the hosts of the lodge were immensely helpful with hiking recommendations and even gave us a ride to start a 3 ben traverse which ended back in town (they planned the hike and it was fantastic!). Also right from the lodge you are walking distance to Mt. Tully and Diamond Hill.

I was there a little off season and just one restaurant in town was open which had fabulous food and walking distance from the hostel. There was also a small grocery store with an ATM right in the same square. Oh and also a pub with live music at night. So in fact this hostel is walking distance to everything needed. If I get a chance to go back to Ireland I would like to spend more time in this beautiful ocean side mountain town and stay at this lodge. (I had mountains goats outside my window!) They served fresh breads with cereals and coffee or tea every morning. The "hostel" room I shared my mother was a private room with a private bath.

There was a washer and dryer available for laundry as well as a community kitchen area. Again hosts very friendly and helpful with our hiking/travel arrangements, they even arranged transportation for us to get to Westport as the bus we needed wasn't running that week. There was wifi and public computer access. There are maps on the walls in the hostel of the surrounding mountains. We had the owners cell phone number so if we had any emergencies we had someone local to call.

Really a hikers and travelers paradise. I chose this hostel and town because I read somewhere it had everything a hiker needed within walking distance and I agree 100%! If your looking to do some Connemara hiking and not sure where to start than this hostel is for you.

"Excellent Restaurant!!.
Have been to the restaurant here twice
and was very impressed both times".

On our first visit we sat near the bar and loved the atmosphere and décor. The food also, was excellent. We had steak and a cajun salmon, both of which were great.

We then went back for the Vietnamese theme night which was exceptional! The four course menu was varied and delicious. Lots of spicy, sour, coconut sauces and soups, lovely fresh fish, beautifully fragrant and well seasoned, and really generous portions! They could have taken an easy option for desert, but it was elaborate and gorgeous.

The place was packed and we were really impressed with the effort that had gone into decorating the place for the theme night – it was a really fun affair.

Hugely impressed with the chef, and all the staff for that matter. So nice to get a real friendly welcome combined with such impressive food.
